D.A.R.E. BC Hosts Heartwarming BBQ and Potluck Event Celebrating Community and Youth Empowerment

On Saturday, September 20, D.A.R.E. BC Society welcomed community members and volunteers to a heartwarming BBQ and Potluck event held at a local community venue. The gathering served not only as a celebration of community spirit but also as an opportunity to recognize the continued importance of the D.A.R.E. program in shaping young lives.

The event brought together families, supporters, and dedicated volunteers for a day of food, fellowship, and meaningful discussions. Attendees enjoyed a shared potluck feast, engaging conversations, and educational insights into D.A.R.E. BC’s vital work in promoting drug awareness and healthy decision-making among youth. We also had the joy and honour of celebrating one of our enthusiastic volunteer’s birthday with a delicious classic chocolate cake from a well-established and renowned bakery chain.

D.A.R.E. BC’s Role

Volunteers delivered a thoughtful presentation highlighting D.A.R.E. BC’s mission and goals. A key message throughout was the importance of early education in helping children resist peer pressure—especially when it comes to drugs and other high-risk behaviours. The presentation emphasized that children are most impressionable at a young age, making early intervention and guidance essential.

One of the highlights of the event came from a current volunteer and D.A.R.E. graduate, who shared his personal journey. Having completed the program over 15 years ago, he spoke about how D.A.R.E. influenced his decisions throughout high school and helped shape his career path. His message echoed a central D.A.R.E. teaching: it is always okay to say “no.”

“Don’t put your first foot into the door because once you get in there, it is very hard to get back out.”
