Communications Committee Members

Overview of Position

DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) BC seeks two qualified volunteers to fill upcoming term vacancies. To support the work of the DARE BC Board of Directors several committees have been established.  Currently the Communication/ Marketing Committee is seeking volunteers to assist the committee in implementing its communication/marketing plan.  

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Using current material, develop monthly newsletter inserts appropriate to the particular newsletter audience.
  • Develop a series of “good news stories” to submit to local community papers.
  • Update and refine DARE BC power point presentation used in creating awareness about the society.
  • Update and refine DARE BC pamphlet used in fundraising efforts
  • Attend Committee meetings as needed
  • Be informed about the Society’s mission, services, programs, policies and by-laws.
  • Act as a good-will ambassador for DARE BC.
Desirable Assets  
  • Experience/education in journalism, communication and/or marketing
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal background check

Hours of Work

Total commitment: approximately 50 hour over 4 months for two volunteers.  (This could be 100 hours for 1 person if so inclined).  Please state your preference for hours in your application.

Board Member

Overview of Position

D.A.R.E.(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) BC seeks qualified individuals to fill two upcoming vacancies on its Board of Directors for the 2011/2012 fiscal year. The D.A.R.E. BC Board of Directors provides overall leadership and financial management for the organization. Board meetings are held six times per year, generally on the third Tuesday of every other month.

Duties and Responsibilities of Board Members

  • Regularly attend Board meetings (six meetings per year) and other special meetings (e.g. Strategic Planning; Committee meetings, etc.).
  • Attend the annual general meeting (AGM).
  • Be informed about the Society’s mission, services, programs, policies and by-laws.
  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing the agenda and reading background materials.
  • Contribute positively to Board discussions at meetings and between meetings via e-mail.
  • Be willing to participate on and/or chair a committee.
  • Act as a good-will ambassador for D.A.R.E. BC.
  • Assist the Board in carrying out its responsibilities.
  • Represent D.A.R.E. as a presenter/ speaker at  community and fundraising  events.
 Desirable Skills Set
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, financial and strategic planning skills.
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong supervisory skills and experience.
  • Willingness to share professional skills and resources in the achievement of the Society’s mission.
  • Previous experience with a non-profit and/or Board of Directors an asset.
  • Ability to contribute approximately four hours per month.
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal background check.
