History
The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) BC Society was formed in 1999 by a small group of community-minded individuals and dedicated police officers who set out to work together to provide drug and alcohol abuse prevention programs to school aged children in and around Prince George, British Columbia. Over the years the Society increased its capacity to deliver prevention-based educational programs to children in other BC communities by leveraging support from, and forming partnerships with, law enforcement agencies, school districts, teachers, parents and like-minded community members across the province. Today, the Society’s network of 265 volunteer police officers, known as D.A.R.E. Officers, are strategically placed across all regions of BC, which enables the effective delivery of prevention-based educational programs to 30,000 students in 800 schools every year. Those numbers have been steadily increasing.
