It takes an entire village to raise a child.

It takes a village to raise a child” is a popular proverb with a clear message: everyone has an essential role to play in the healthy growth and development of our young people.

Research has identified several building blocks of healthy development, known as Developmental Assets®, that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible and that protect them from problematic drug and alcohol use and potentially devastating high-risk behaviour. Some of the most powerful of those assets are:

  • Connection to family
  • Connection to school
  • Well-developed decision making skills
  • Strong sense of resiliency

Prevention works, and is most effective when it comes from every direction – when parents, schools and community contribute collectively to strengthening the protective factors and developmental assets that help keep our kids safe.

D.A.R.E. BC is pleased to be a partner in prevention and would like to encourage everyone to do their part in helping to steer our children away from drugs and alcohol.
